Hanoi capital hosts 60th anniversary of Hanoi - Hue - Saigon friendship

A meeting was held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the friendship of Hanoi – Hue – Saigon on October 3 in Hanoi.

Participants at the meeting were Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party City Vuong Dinh Hue along with members of the Party Central Committee: Chu Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee; Le Truong Luu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Thua Thien Hue Province and Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the People’s Council of HCM City.

Hanoi- Hue- Saigon the "trees of the same root, offspring of a family"

In his opening speech, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh emphasized that the national history has affirmed that the three cities have joined together in production, struggled with harsh nature, and fought against invaders to protect the Fatherland. This spirit was vividly expressed in each historical period.

The special relationship among the three cities is expected to continue to be fostered by generations of cadres, party members and people, significantly contributing to successfully implement the cause of industrialization and modernization, for the national construction and defense.

In Hanoi, 60 years ago - on October 8, 1960, there took place an event with a historical significance - a twinned friendship ceremony of three cities: Hanoi - Hue - Saigon.

This event bears a symbol affirming the iron will to unify the Vietnamese people's Motherland; and Hanoi, Hue, and Saigon are "trees of the same root, offspring of a family." This deep and lasting friendship was noted on the glorious history pages of three provinces and cities and eternally engraved in the heart of Vietnamese people.

The twinned friendship movement had developed strongly in Hanoi Capital raising emulation movements which had contributed significantly to the struggle for national liberation and reunification in the south.

Anh is also pleased to announce to the delegates that the achievements of the Hanoi Party Committee after 35 years of renewal process. The capital's economy continues to grow achieving a fairly good growth rate higher than the national average; economic structure shifts in a positive direction and develops comprehensively in the fields of culture, education, health care service and science and technology. Plus, Party inspection work has produced many important results.

He also believes that the friendship of the three cities will further develop with specific works by generations of Party members and people to boost the relationship.

“This is also the foundation for the three cities to firmly step on the path of innovation, successfully implementing the cause of industrialization, modernization, construction and protection of the country,” said Anh. 

The deep imprint of solidarity

Speaking at the event, Le Truong Luu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Thua Thien Hue Province stresses that Thang Long, Thuan Hoa and Gia Định (Hanoi, Hue and Sai Gon) are milestones of the national historic development. The traditional relationship is a foundation for the national development through the periods and in the context of current integration and development.

“We highly appreciate great efforts in construction and development process of Hanoi and HCM cities,” said Luu. “We are proud of Hanoi - thousand-year culture and HCM City - The ‘Motherland’s Iron Bulwark’”

He also said that over the 60 past years, Thua Thien Hue has developed rapidly thanks to great efforts made by the provincial Party and people and supports from Hanoi Capital and HCM City.

In future, to continue enhancing co-operation, mutual assistance and promoting the strengths and roles of each locality, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Thua Thien Hue suggests that the three cities should focus on strengthening co-operation and support in Party and the political system building keeping Party clean.

Twinned friendship of the three cities has contributed to the Great 1975 Spring Victory and the south liberation and the national reunification.

After the national reunification, Thua Thien Hue named Hanoi Road and Ben Nghe Road. Whilst HCM City changed Bien Hoa Highway to Hanoi Highway on the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Hanoi Capital Liberation Day.

Following the precious tradition, Hanoi, Hue, Saigon continue to promote comprehensive exchanges and co-operation in all fields; many co-operation programs between the three cities. are signed and boost the tradition and mutual support in socio-economic, together with the whole country are determined to successfully implement the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country for the development goal and integration.
