Hanoi determined to become a green-zone destination on world’s travel map

World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, is an opportunity to look back, identify the joint actions and promote them to protect the environment in Hanoi.

Hanoi, with strong determination, will keep implementing synchronized and effective solutions to become a green destination on the world's travel map.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Trong Dong made the statement at the launching ceremony held in the city on June 3 in response to the World Environment Day [June 5] with the message “Joining hands for a green Hanoi”.

Environmental pollution is currently a headache in the capital city, Dong said, adding that the municipal authorities have taken actions to improve waste management, and reduce plastic waste, among others, to protect the environment with the active participation of schools, communities, and businesses.

“Therefore, World Environment Day is an opportunity to look back, identify the joint actions, and promote environmental protection in the capital city. One such action is the launch of the Action Month for Environment 2022,” Dong said.

He added that 2022 is an important year when the revised Law on Environmental Protection 2020 took effect (from January 1, 2022).

Accordingly, this is a transformation in environmental protection towards the highest goal of improving environmental quality, protecting people's health, ecological balance, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable economic development, stressed the vice-chairman.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Pham Tuan Long said that the district, located in the center of Hanoi, is an important stopover for numerous tourists.

“Therefore, environmental protection is identified as a key task for Hoan Kiem District and the top concern,” Long emphasized.

Hoan Kiem is the first district in the city to implement waste sorting at source through the program “Building green schools - For a green Hanoi”.

In the future, Hoan Kiem District will continue to implement practical and effective activities to protect the environment and contribute to preserving Hanoi as a green and clean city, an indispensable destination for tourists, Long added.

According to the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment, this year's program launched in response to the World Environment Day will have many meaningful activities, including green models and solutions from local communities as well as many creative activities to attract public participation in spreading environmental protection solutions.

Also within the framework of the Action Month for Environment (running between May 15 and June 15), local and international workshops will be held to introduce and seek advanced models for protecting natural resources and the environment, solutions for pollution reduction, and responses to climate change, among others.

These practical and effective activities are a testament to the efforts of connecting state agencies with organizations, communities, and schools to enhance social responsibility for a green and clean Hanoi.
