Hanoi encourages RoK to expand investment and cooperation

Hanoi Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung affirmed his support, on behalf the city authority, to connect Hanoi and the RoK’s localities while meeting the new Korean ambassador to Vietnam on May 28.

At the meeting, newly-accredited ambassador Kim Do-hyun told the host that he aims to boost cooperation between his country and Hanoi and other Vietnamese localities during his tenure. The diplomat cited the upcoming relocation of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA)'s headquarter in South East Asia from Singapore to Hanoi as a stark example of possibility to become an Asia’s economic hub of Hanoi and Vietnam in general.

Accordingly, Kim suggested Hanoi authority to support the RoK’s embassy in establishing a zone (Korea Center) where representative organizations from RoK like KOTRA, can assemble and operate effectively. He also mentions a plan to expand and upgrade the Korean International school in Hanoi, under international standards.
Hanoi Mayor, congratulated the ambassador on his new tenure in Vietnam, saying he highly appraised the two above proposals, in addition to a claim that the city authority will create favorable conditions for those plans.
Besides, Chung said that there are about 40,000 Koreans living in Hanoi. The RoK is among the five countries with the highest numbers of tourists to Hanoi. Over the years, the East Asian nation has been one of the leading countries in terms of investment in the Vietnamese capital. Hanoi always works with the RoK Embassy to create favourable conditions for Korean citizens in Vietnam, he pressed.
To fulfil commitments signed during the Vietnam’s visit by President Moon Jae-in in March, the Hanoi official stated that he hopes the embassy and other Korean agencies will speed up investment projects and programmes in Vietnam, including Hanoi.
He also expressed his hope that Hanoi will help encourage more Vietnamese businesses to get involved in component supply chains for plants of the RoK’s LG, Samsung and other foreign enterprises in Vietnam
