Hanoi fosters close ties with Havana

Both cities are scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation during the next development phase in 2023.

Hanoi would continue to strengthen cooperation with La Habana in all spheres, especially those with great potential, such as health, agriculture, and trade.

Permanent Deputy  Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen shared this view as she led the city's high-ranking delegation to visit Cuba on November 19 to foster long-standing relations and friendship between Hanoi and Cuban localities.

At the meeting with Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee Roberto Morales Ojeda, Tuyen highlighted the practical cooperation between the two countries during the Covid-19 pandemic, saying this is proof of the strong bilateral relationship.

Tuyen expressed her appreciation for the timely support of Cuba when Vietnam struggled with the Covid-19 outbreak, including delivering Covid-19 vaccines and sending medical staff to Vietnam.

Reaffirming Vietnam's stance to enhance the special solidarity and friendship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Cuba, Tuyen suggested the two sides further increase exchanges of senior officials and maintain regular channels of communication; promote friendship between the peoples, especially the young generations.

At a meeting with leaders of the Havana Party Committee, the two sides exchanged experiences on Party building and agreed on solutions to further strengthen cooperation between the two capitals, especially in health, agriculture, trade, culture, and education.

The first secretary of the Havana Party Committee, Antonio Torres Iribar, welcomed the Hanoi delegation to Havana and highlighted the importance of the visit, considering it a new milestone in bilateral relations, especially after the visit of  Cuban prime minister Manuel Marero Cruz to Vietnam on September 28.

 The delegation laid a wreath in memory of President Ho Chi Minh at a park named after the late leader in Havana.

Tuyen said Vietnam and Hanoi give priority to promoting Vietnam-Cuba relations.

"The Party, State, and people of Hanoi always appreciate and strive to bring cooperation between the two capitals to a new height," Tuyen said.

Tuyen and Iribar shared the importance of Party building and strengthening exchange activities between the two Party organizations for greater operational efficiency.

They agreed to sign the memorandum of understanding for cooperation between Hanoi and Havana during the next development phase in 2023.

On this occasion, Hanoi symbolically delivered 2,000 tons of rice as a gift to Havana when facing a food supply shortage.

During the work trip to Cuba, the high-ranking delegation from Hanoi held several meetings with leaders and organizations of the Cuban Party; he laid a wreath at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh and paid tribute to the Cuban hero José Martí; visited the Fidel Castro Center.
