Hanoi gives gifts to needy workers

Hanoi hands out VND60 billion (US$2.6 million) to help the poor during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Huyen, a resident of Hanoi, clearly feels the coming of Tet (Lunar New Year) as she receives special gifts from the municipal trade union, especially when her family is facing with difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ms. Huyen, working for Hanoi Textbook Printing Joint Stock Company, was one of nearly one thousand workers benefiting from the city’s “Gathering in Tet holiday” program, which was held to care for disadvantaged workers at the weekend.

“Joining the program, we feel Tet is drawing nearer thanks to the attention of the municipal trade union. The gifts will help underprivileged employees like us have a warm and joyful Tet,” Ms. Huyen said.

At the event, the municipal leaders extended Tet greetings to workers, presented 80,000 gifts and gaveout 90,000 bus tickets for needy workers to return home for Tet holiday.


The amount of money to support underprivileged workers across the city in the Lunar New Year is estimated at over VND60 billion (US$2.6 million).

Besides, union members and employees participated in games such as wrapping “Chưng” cake, lucky drawing. They were also able to shop Tet items at booths with preferential prices.


The program aimed to promote the role of the Hanoi’s government and businesses incaring for the spiritual and material lives of trade unionists and laborers, ensuring that all of them will enjoy a decent Tet celebration.


Standing Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen highly valued the Hanoi Trade Union for caring and protecting the rights and legitimate interests of employees.

Emphasizing important tasks in the coming year, Ms. Tuyen asked the Hanoi Confederation of Labor to encourage its members and workers to fulfill all the set targets and tasks, making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the capital city and the country.

"The municipal trade union should coordinate with businesses to help workers overcome the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, develop production and business, and protect its laborers’ legitimate rights and interests," Ms. Tuyen added.


“It is necessary to provide financial assistance for disadvantaged workers during Tet holiday 2021 and arrange bus trips to take them back home to enjoyTet in a safest way," said the standing deputy secretary.


This is the 7th consecutive year the Hanoi Federation of Labor has organized the program to bring all laborers a happy New Year celebration.
