Hanoi to focus on healthcare service

The Ministry of Health wants Hanoi to take the lead in bringing Vietnam's health sector to the top of the Southeast Asia.

Hanoi always give priority for medical work and attaches importance to the city’s health sector, Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper quoted Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh at the working session with the Ministry of Health on December 10.

Mr. Ngoc Anh cited reports from the Hanoi Department of Health that the city has a well-developed medical network with 41 public hospitals, five specialized centers, 30 district health centers, 52 regional polyclinics, 579 health stations, 3,953 private medical examination and treatment establishments, 8,142 pharmaceutical establishments, among others.

Besides, in 2020, the city has been able to control the situation of Covid-19 pandemic. So far, Hanoi has reported 173 Covid-19 cases and no deaths. Especially, from August 18, the city has gone 116 consecutive days without confirming any cases of Covid-19 in the community.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Nguyen Khac Hien put forth ten recommendations and proposals related to improving the quality of medical human resources and appropriate salary policies for health workers.

Regarding the social distancing, prevention and fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Hien requested that diplomatic passport bearers and flight crews need must be put under strict quarantine for 14 days in isolation centers.

Hanoi to become a specialized medical center

Speaking at the working session, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long highly valued Hanoi’s medical work, adding that in spite of many difficulties, the city has achieved many remarkable results, especially in preventing and fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic.

"In the coming time, the Ministry of Health will put higher demands on Hanoi in the pandemic prevention and control. Hanoi’s health sector must make effort to prevent another Covid-19 outbreak wave in the city, fulfilling the dual goal of the pandemic prevention and socio-economic development," Mr. Long stressed.

The Ministry of Health has an ambition to bring Vietnam's health sector to the top of the Southeast Asia, thus the capital city's health sector must be a pioneer in this effort, Minister Long said, hoping that Hanoi will work more closely with the ministry to serve the local and national health sector.
