Deputy prime minister appointed as Hanoi's Party chief

Vuong Dinh Hue replaces Hoang Trung Hai who was disciplined for the involvement in a project with Chinese funding.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has been appointed as Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, replacing Hoang Trung Hai, who was disciplined for involving in a steel manufacturing project partly financed by Chinese funding.

The Politburo, the most powerful body of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), made the appointment and the decision was announced at a meeting on February 7.

Vuong Dinh Hue, 63, who is a Politburo member, worked as deputy prime minister responsible for macroeconomic and financial issues since April 2016.

Before, he held the post of Head of the Central Commission for Economics, Minister of Finance, and Head of the State Audit Office of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Hai has been appointed as deputy head of the XIII Party Congress Documents sub-committee, which is headed by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong
