Hanoi hosts ecological fashion show
The fashion show is a special event and part of the ongoing official visit to Vietnam by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
An eco-fashion show with theme “Walk the Talk” was held at the Ly Thai To Square, Hanoi on April 9, part of a tight schedule to welcome visiting Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
The fashion show, organized by the Hanoi People’s Committee in coordination with the Dutch embassy in Vietnam, aims to introduce Dutch ecological fashion styles to the public, thus contributing to achieving sustainable development goals.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that the fashion show is a special event and forms part of the ongoing official visit to Vietnam by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Chung noted that the event not only raises mutual understanding but also offers visitors an insight into joint work in the fields of culture, fashion and environment.
In recent years, Hanoi always considers Dutch firms as important partners in the fields of education-training, environment, planning, urban infrastructure, construction materials, investment, trade and tourism, Chung said.
According to Hanoi's mayor, Vietnam’s capital has become a friendly destination for foreign tourists, including those from the Netherlands. In 2018, the number of Dutch visitors to Vietnam hit 73,000, up 10% annually, ranking 15th out of top 20 markets.
Dutch culture is also not unfamiliar to the people of Vietnam and Hanoi, as the good friendship symbol between the two countries is the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School, Chung added.
Chairman Chung suggested further enhancing exchanges and trade and tourism promotion activities between the European country and Vietnam as well as Hanoi in particular.
On his side, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte said that the textile and garment is one of Vietnam’s key economic sectors which has generated jobs to many people, including women in Vietnam.
In addition, Mark Rutte also highly appreciated the Vietnamese government for making significant contributions to strengthening the sustainable development of the garment industry.
According to Mark Rutte, innovations will help reduce wastes and save water in the industry. The event will help step up responsible business behaviours in the apparel industry, he added.
