Hanoi – Ile-de-France 3-decade cooperation energizes Vietnamese capital’s development

The cooperation between Ile-de-France and Hanoi has been exemplary for other Vietnamese and French localities to follow.

During three decades of cooperation, Ile-de-France (France’s Paris region) has supported Hanoi with many projects in various fields including urban management, public transport, environment, among others, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s capital city.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung made the statement during the celebration of 30 years of Hanoi – Ile-de-France cooperative ties (1989-2019) at the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam) on July 16.

The event also saw the attendance of Chairwoman of Ile-de-France Valerie Pécresse, French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep and high ranking delegates of Hanoi and Ile-de-France.

At the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung highly valued the effective cooperation and the ties full of potential for development between Hanoi and the France’s capital region. He also pointed out some significant projects that the French region has financed their execution in Hanoi including the Hanoi Capital Region Plan, Hanoi Capital Construction Master Plan to 2030 and Vision to 2050;  bus interchange construction according to EU’s standards; the study of Hanoi Urban Rail System Project (Line 3: Nhon-Hanoi) and helping Hanoi in preparing dossiers for the inscription of the Thang Long Royal Citadel on UNESCO's list of World Heritages.

The Hanoi mayor called on Ile-de-France to continue supporting Hanoi in dealing with challenges regarding environmental pollution, technology transformation, cultural industry development,  among others. Especially, he proposed the French side create favorable conditions for Hanoi’s startups to work at French startup incubators and invited French successful startups to Hanoi to exchange experience.

For her part, Valérie Pécresse said that the cooperation between Ile-de-France and Hanoi has been exemplary for other Vietnamese and French localities to follow. She also expressed her belief that the future partnership between the two localities will expand further with many significant projects in the future.
