Hanoi intensifies application of high-tech farming models

High-tech agricultural products are expected to make up more than 70% of the city's total agricultural output by 2030.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has strongly applied hi-tech and digital technology in agriculture with a focus on cultivation, animal husbandry, and aquaculture, according to Doan Duc Dan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center.

"From now until 2030, Hanoi plans to increase the number of high-tech agricultural models, farms, cooperatives, and enterprises by 10%-20% annually," Dan said.

The city encourages producers, businesses, and cooperatives to adopt smart agriculture and electronic farms, while joining distribution chains and quality control.

Specifically, local farmers and firms have paid attention to automation, biotechnology, and computerization to save costs, increase productivity, improve product quality, and protect the environment.

Large enterprises in Hanoi have opted for high-tech agriculture, such as biotechnology, greenhouse technology, automatic sensor technology, automatic grids, and hydroponics.

Thieu Van Son, Chairman of the Dan Phuong District Farmers' Association, told The Hanoi Times that Hanoi has developed 160 high-tech agricultural models in cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, and cultivation and farming, mainly in Me Linh, Gia Lam, Thuong Tin, Dong Anh, Thanh Oai, and Dan Phuong districts.

Outstanding enterprises in the sector include Thanh Cao Kinoko's Japanese technology mushroom production model in My Duc District, Da Ton Integrated Agricultural Service Cooperatives' hydroponic vegetable production model in Gia Lam District, and Dan Hoai Cooperative's orchid production model in Dan Phuong District.

Deputy Director Doan Duc Dan said Hanoi expects to have a high-tech agricultural center, dozens of high-tech agricultural zones, and at least 10 recognized high-tech agricultural enterprises.

To support firms in this sector, Hanoi has launched a program on agricultural development with high-tech applications for 2026-2030 to increase the proportion of high-tech agricultural products to up to 70% of the city's total agricultural output.

In particular, 100% of animal products come from large and industrial farms that have applied at least one high technology measure, as well as production - processing - consumption chains that apply high technology in product quality management and product traceability.

"We will remove obstacles regarding policies to support the development of high-tech applications in production while training in high-tech applications and market development," the official said.

At present, high-tech agricultural products account for more than 35% of the total value of agricultural production in the whole city, helping agricultural cooperatives, farms, and craft villages gain higher productivity and income.
