Expanding iParking application

The Hanoi People’s Committee also assigned the Hanoi Department of Transportation to continue supervising parking activities in the city’s areas, particularly where big companies and parking units are located. The Hanoi Department of Transportation needs to lead and cooperate with other related agencies to announce and initiate the operation of iParking application.

According to the statistics of the Hanoi Department of Transportation, currently, there are 728 parking spots in Hanoi, accounting for an area of 140,000m2. In particular, the Hanoi Department of Transportation and other district People’s Committee own 654 parking spots with an area of over 130,000m2. Meanwhile, other illegal parking spots without any licenses are 74, consisting of 16,000m2 in area.

Besides, there are 597 parking spots in hospitals, commercial centers, urban areas and schools, accounting for an area of 830,000m2. However, there are only 5 parking spots allowed by the Hanoi People’s Committee, while the Hanoi Department of Transportation approved the operation of 28 parking spots since they meet all the required conditions to keep vehicles.

Currently, 89 parking spots serving the walking district around Hoan Kiem Lake will utilize iParking. Since September 1, all parking spots meeting the required conditions in four districts: Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung, and Dong Da will be using iParking.

The Hanoi People’s Committee also asked the Hanoi Department of Transportation, Finance, Taxation… to consider the car parking fee to be fixed for the first hour and progressive for the upcoming. In addition, before December 31, iParking services such as sending messages to car owners as cars are parked overtime, etc. need to be completed.

Motorcycle will have Iparking parking lot

In parallel with the expanding area of Iparking for car parking, Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned Hanoi Transport Department to cooperate with districts and wards in developing plan to use Iparking to motorcycle parking.

With this regard, representative of Hanoi Transport Department said, the parking demand in reality is growing day by day. In addition to car, the increasing rate of motorcycle is developing quickly. “Iparking application has shown its effectiveness in car parking. For sure, when Iparking is applied to motorcycle, the parking for this kind of vehicle will be simple, transparent and convenient for both citizens and administrative agencies” – the representative said.

Experts said, at present, Hanoi is severely lacking parking lot for both car and motorcycle, the situation when vehicles are parked in streets or in prohibited areas are overwhelmed; while the parking fee is a lot higher than the stipulated prices in many areas.

Reality requires administrative agencies to quickly conducting measures and bringing back order in this field. The use of Iparking application in motorcycle parking is expected to be a promising solution with positive result.

However, due to the large amount of motorcycle, along with the citizens’ habit of parking their vehicles wherever they want are causing difficulties for the application of Iparking. Transport expert Nguyen Manh Thang said: “Car is much more expensive than motorcycle, while it is inconvenient moving in crowded streets, so car owner will need safer parking lot than motorcycle owner”.
