Hanoi adopts plan to ensure traffic safety during upcoming Tet holiday

Tet markets will be held at the entrances of the city to avoid large number of trucks carrying Tet commodities circulating in the city’s downtown.

To ensure road safety and curb traffic congestion in the upcoming Tet holiday, the Hanoi Department of Transport has issued a plan which includes more inspections and fining illegal stoppage of cars, Economic & Urban Newspaper reported.

Accordingly, the department has identified 92 locations at risk of congestion to deal with them, and avoid the occurrence of new congestion points.
Hanoi police will divert all trucks, buses to side roads and prevent them to go through the capital city in artery routes.
Also, Tet markets will be held at the entrances of the city to avoid large number of trucks carrying Tet-related commodities circulating in the city’s downtown.
The department’s inspectorate will ensure traffic safety and urban order, strictly handle violations, especially unauthorized car-parks, encroachment of roadways, sidewalks and traffic corridors for street vending.
Mobile units of the inspectorate will be dispatched to the city’s bus stations to ensure order, in anticipation of large influx of people returning home.
The city will accelerate the completion of traffic works and push up the progress so that they could be put into use before Tet holiday.
Works still under construction must be stopped before January 15, 2020.
