Hanoi launches Vietnam’s first industrial waste power-generating system

The Hanoi Urban Environment Company in collaboration with Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) held a ceremony to launch the Vietnam’s first industrial waste power-generating system in Hanoi’s suburban district of Soc Son on September 16.

The project, jointly implemented by the Hanoi Urban Environment Company and Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO), has Japanese technology and equipment.

The construction of projcet was completed after 22 months. After trial operation until December 2016, the system will be officially run and connected to the national power grid. 
Vietnam’s first industrial waste power-generating system is capable of generating 1,930kW of power by treating 75 tonnes of industrial waste per day.
Addressing the launching ceremony, Nguyen Xuan Huynh, Vice General Director of the Hanoi Urban Environment Company said, this is the first project in Vietnam and the region that uses modern waste treatment process. 
The project, part of the Green Aid Plan of Japan, is significant for Hanoi where the volume of industrial waste has increased and dumping ground is narrower, he stressed.

Meanwhile, Minoru Furukawa, President of Japan’s Hitachizosen Corporation from Japan, a contractor of the project, said that after trial operation until December 2016, the system will be officially run and connected to the national power grid. 
Materials for the system include solid waste, fabrics, plastics, dead animal body, among others. Meanwhile, air and water released from the system are cooled and filtered before releasing into the environment.
The project has a total investment of over 645 billion VND, including 173 billion VND from Hanoi’s budget.
