Hanoi's leaders extend condolences to families of deceased firefighters
The fire police died after saving eight people and attempting to control the fire at a six-story karaoke lounge.
Leaders of Hanoi on August 2 sent messages of condolences to the families of three firefighters who lost their lives one day ago in the line of duty in the city’s urban district of Cau Giay.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung led a delegation joined by Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front – Hanoi Committee Nguyen Lan Huong, Deputy Head of the municipal People’s Council Phung Thi Hong Ha, and Lieutenant General Nguyen Hai Trung, Head of the city’s Public Security.
The delegation paid a visit to the families of Ll Col. Dang Anh Quan, 44; Lieutenant Do Duc Viet, 24; and Private Nguyen Dinh Phuc, 19, – the trio who died on the mission after saving eight lives at a fire flared up in a six-storey karaoke lounge.

Sharing some words of comfort, Dung said their bravery gains people’s admiration and respect. At the same time, functional forces are required to investigate the cause of the fire and strictly handle fire prevention violations in the case.
The tragic accident has triggered a huge outpouring of grief expressions from the public, especially after the photo of Do Duc Viet in firefighting uniforms with a dog he saved was posted on the Internet.

A flurry of condolences was sent to the fire police, including a sympathy message by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
On the same day, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Long worked with Cau Giay District’s Police on the case.
A day after the case, Public Security Minister To Lam signed a decision posthumously promoting the police officers Dang Anh Quan to senior colonel, Do Duc Viet to lieutenant, and Nguyen Dinh Phuc to corporal.
In 2021, Vietnam reported 2,245 fire cases causing 85 deaths and 130 injured people while damaging 3,670 hectares of forests and a property loss worth VND374 billion (US$16 million).
