Hanoi looks to tighten cooperation with Japanese locality

As of the Kanagawa Festival in Hanoi, its latest holding last year has left good imprints on the locals and Vietnamese people.

Hanoi will continue tightening relationships with Japanese localities including Kanagawa, focusing on the development of economic and cultural exchange, educational cooperation, and manpower training, among others.

Deputy Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan stressed the idea when receiving Governor of Kanagawa prefecture Yuji Kuroiwa on November 11. The meeting also saw the attendance of Umeda Kunio, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the organization of the Kanagawa Festival in Hanoi this year and the orientations of cooperation between the Vietnamese and Japanese localities in the coming time.

According to Hanoi’s deput mayor, the city is currently on a very strong development momentum, to which many Japan – Vietnam cooperation projects have contributed a great deal.

Japan is one of the largest Official Development Assistance (ODA) donors to Hanoi, especially in the construction of wastewater treatment plants and railway lines, several Japanese large corporations including AEON have poured money and expanded their investment in Hanoi.

As of the Kanagawa Festival in Hanoi, its latest holding last year has left good imprints on the locals and the Vietnamese people, proof of the increasing cultural exchange activities between Vietnam’s capital and Japanese localities and they are the impetus to promote cooperation in economy, politics, and development of the two sides.


The Hanoi official also noted that the city will work to handle difficulties and shortcomings for Japanese and Kanagawa provincial businesses investing in the city as well as make its best for these projects to be operational soon.


He expected Japan and Kanagawa will continue promoting Hanoi’s images and its favorable business environment, thereby, so as the city would attract more investment.


For his part, Japanese Governor Yuji Kuroiwa confirmed that along with the festival, a conference on investment promotion between Hanoi and Kanagawa will take place with the participation of 11 enterprises from the Japanese province.


During the visit, the Japanese delegation also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Labour – War Invalids and Social Affairs on training manpower.
