Hanoi Mayor promises support for Japan-Vietnam joint projects and activities

Japan and Việt Nam will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, with cultural events lifting the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two nations.

Hanoi authorities will hasten their joint efforts with Japanese investors to boost the implementation of socio-economic projects, the city mayor Tran Sy Thanh said on March 3.

Municipal and local agencies will co-work with Japanese investors to ensure the projects match their plans, Thanh told a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio.

"Hanoi authorities had resolved issues involving the development of the smart city on the northern side of Hanoi," said Thanh.

He also suggested the Japanese ambassador invite more Japanese businesses to land their projects in Hanoi, particularly in urban development, transportation, agriculture, and tourism.

On his part, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio said that Vietnamese and Japanese companies would enjoy better conditions to execute their joint projects.

He stressed that the focus now is the construction of the urban railways, the development of the smart city in Hanoi’s northern side, and the construction of the Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant.

The ambassador said these projects would improve the living conditions for the Hanoians and become the icons of Vietnam-Japanese diplomatic relations.

At the meeting, Hanoi Mayor Thanh and Japanese Ambassador Yamada cherished the strong relations that Vietnam and Hanoi have achieved with Japanese authorities.

The two officials emphasized the importance of the year 2023, in which Vietnam and Japan will celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.

Thanh and Yamada agreed that Hanoi departments and Japanese agencies would join to organize cultural events to celebrate the occasion.

Thanh promised the municipal authorities would enable the best conditions for the events, thus fostering and lifting Vietnam-Japan relations.

In return, the Japanese ambassador Yamada expected that the two nations would tighten mutual relations in various activities, particularly culture, trade, and investment, in which Vietnam and Japan have made remarkable achievements.

The upcoming cultural activities will increase the friendship and mutual understanding between the Vietnamese and Japanese people, he said.
