Hanoi moves forward to deepen global integration: Mayor
The city’s authority will focus on administrative reform and information technology application to reduce costs for businesses.
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has highlights the city’s achievements in opening up itself to the world and envisioned measures to deepen its global integration.
At the online conference of the National Steering Committee’s on International Integration on April 23, Chairman Chung said that Hanoi always attaches importance to promoting the country’s image, including on television channel CNN.
In recent years, the capital city has welcomed and worked with more than 660 international delegations. The city has also cooperated with more than 100 cities, of which it has set up formal cooperation with more than 50 capitals and cities in the world, Chung added.
He noted that in 2018, foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in Hanoi reached a record high of US$7.5 billion, making the city the most heavily invested locality in the country. From 2016 to 2018 and in the first three months of 2019, Hanoi attracted nearly US$18.29 billion in FDI, 2.92 times the amount in 2011-2015.
Its international reach has contributed to the steady growth of foreign tourist arrivals to Hanoi over the years. The annualized growth was 22.4% in 2016, 23% in 2017 and 21.3% in 2018 when the city welcomed 6.05 million foreign visitors, Chung said.
The city is now home to over 260,000 businesses, which make up an important force help the city achieve the goals of international integration, economic growth, infrastructure development, and improvement of living standards.
Looking ahead, Chairman Chung outlined measures that Hanoi will focus on in order to enhance international integration.

In addition, Hanoi will proceed with improving its business environment, build a start-up ecosystem, encourage innovation, improve its provincial competitiveness index, mobilize resources to create breakthroughs in infrastructure development, and organize investment promotion events, Chung said.
He stressed that the capital will strive to become a high-quality service center of Vietnam and the regional, enhance cooperation in research, application and transfer of sci-tech achievements and IT applications.
