Hanoi offers Tet aid and travel support to thousands of local workers

Hanoi will provide broad Tet assistance to workers and trade union members in 2026, offering cash support, shopping vouchers, free bus trips and community activities to ensure a warm and joyful Lunar New Year.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Hanoi Federation of Labor announced that 60,000 trade union members and workers in the city will receive a Tet allowance of VND1 million (US$38) each for the upcoming Lunar New Year in 2026.

This is an annual activity that Hanoi organizes to help workers enjoy a warm and happy Tet holiday and to show the city’s care for its workforce.

Beneficiaries include policy families, ethnic minority workers and people who have not returned home for many years or must stay on duty during the holiday.

Priority will go to those facing hardship, workplace accidents, illness, job loss, reduced working hours or unpaid wages and bonuses.

Workers receiving Tet visits from city leaders will receive an additional gift worth VND300,000 (US$13).

This year’s Trade Union Tet Market will take place at the social housing complex in Thien Loc Commune on January 31 and February 1, 2026 and at the Vietnam–Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace on February 7–8, 2026.

At the events, workers will receive 6,000 shopping vouchers worth VND500,000 (US$21) each, 6,000 “zero–dong” gift sets valued at VND300,000 (US$13) each and enjoy at least 10% discounts on essential goods.

Workers who do not receive printed vouchers will receive 9,300 digital vouchers through e-commerce platforms.

At 84 trade union units across wards and communes, the program “Tet Reunion – Spring of Gratitude to the Party” will feature music performances, gift-giving, chung cake making, fruit-tray displays and lucky draws.

The Hanoi Federation of Labor will arrange 30 free buses to bring 1,200 workers home from Thang Long Industrial Park on February 14, 2026, the 27th day of the 12th lunar month.

Another 5,500 workers will receive travel support ranging from VND300,000 (US$12) to VND700,000 (US$29), depending on their hometown, including destinations in the South and northern mountainous provinces.

Grassroots trade unions are encouraged to organize “Tet Away From Home” gatherings for those staying in the capital, offering year-end union meals and community-building activities during the holiday.

The 2026 Tet holiday will officially last five days from February 16, 2026 (the last day of the lunar year) to February 20, 2026 (the fourth day of the lunar new year).

With the two weekends before and after Tet included, government officials, public employees and workers in Vietnam may enjoy up to nine days off during Tet 2026.
