Hanoi Party Committee, government pay tribute to martyrs, war invalids

The activities are aimed at honoring the martyrs, invalids and their families for their devotion to winning national independence and freedom.

Caring for war invalids and the families of Vietnamese martyrs is a great honor and responsibility for the government and people of Hanoi, said Hanoi Party Chief Bui Thi Minh Hoai on July 24.

The action shows the gratitude and respect of the capital's authorities and people for those who sacrificed for national independence and freedom, said the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee during a visit to a care center for war invalids in Ung Hoa District.

"Their revolutionary careers and devotion are priceless and incomparable," she said as she made the visit to commemorate the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947).

She added that more than VND30 billion (US$1.2 million) has been raised to support the families of revolutionaries in the capital.

Of the total, the Hanoi government has given more than 1,600 savings books to beneficiaries, upgraded 40 monuments, rebuilt and rehabilitated 153 houses, taken care of all heroic mothers, and provided free medical check-ups to thousands of war invalids and their families, as well as the families of the fallen.

"As part of the commemoration program, Hanoi has presented more than 282,000 gifts to the beneficiaries," the secretary said.

On July 23 and 24, Nguyen Van Phong and Nguyen Thi Tuyen, deputy secretaries of the Hanoi Party Committee, visited Thach That and My Duc districts to pay tribute to the families of martyrs and war invalids.

In Thach That District,  Phong comforted and encouraged two families and paid tribute to those whose sacrifices have helped win freedom, self-reliance and independence for the country.

In My Duc District, Deputy Party Chief Tuyen presented two local families with gifts and words of encouragement

In response, the families expressed their appreciation for the affection Hanoi authorities have for them. They promised to join Hanoi authorities in overcoming challenges and developing the capital.
