Hanoi responses to national tree-planting campaign
The city's effort is in line with Vietnam's campaign to plant one million trees by 2025.
Hanoi has planted 100,000 timber trees at Ba Vi National Park, in line with the annual tree-planting campaign that takes place on the occasion of Tet or the Lunar New Year.
The city's effort is also in response to the government’s program of planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period.

The program is co-organized by Ba Vi National Park, Traditional Medicinal Plants and Growing of Precious Woods of Vietnam JSC., Institute of Economics and Business Development, and the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Accordingly, 100,000 timber trees, including the Bach Xanh (Calocedrus macrolepis), Vang Tam (Manglietia dandyi) and Cho Chi (Parashorea chinensis), were planted in Ba Vi Mountain.
Do Huu The, Director of Ba Vi National Park said that the tree-planting festival contributes to the conservation of nature, biodiversity and green environment of Ba Vi National Park.
The campaign in Hanoi is sponsored by Alvico Group, Van Phu Invest JSC., Phu My Group, Stavian Chemical JSC and the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.
The tree-planting festival is a long-lasting tradition in Vietnam on the New Year occasion that helps boost the forest coverage in a nation that is listed among the hardest-hit by climate change.

On November 28th, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh wrote an article which was published on Nhan dan (People) newspaper, stressing the significance of tree planting to each person, each family and the entire nation. It has since become an annual festival of the Vietnamese at the beginning of each Lunar New Year.
In addition, on December 31, 2020, the then Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued Directive No.45/CT-TTg on organizing the “Tree-planting festival” and enhancing forest protection and growth from early 2021.
Phuc noted that the tree-planting festival must be practical and effective, and conditions must be created for agencies, organizations, schools, armed forces and people of all strata to actively participate in tree planting and afforestation.
