The local authorities will keep an eye on the projects to make them updated and tackle possible problems to speed them up, mostly Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung of the Hanoi People’s Committee said at a meeting with Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office Shimizu Akira on June 23.

At the meeting, the Hanoi mayor said Vietnam and Hanoi in particular highly appreciate Japan’s support over the past years that significantly helps Hanoi develop and improve its people’s lives.

JICA itself has contributed a great part to the city’s development through traffic, environment, and human resources projects.

Mr. Chung spoke highly of the JICA’s role in implementing Japan-funded projects and he believed that Mr. Shimizu Akira, with his experience in Vietnam in the first term would fulfill his mission in this term, greatly contributing to the Vietnam-Japan relations and the relations between Hanoi and Japan.

For his part, Mr. Shimizu Akira affirmed that Japan wants to support the socio-economic development in Vietnam, including Hanoi.

The government of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam have attached importance to enhancing the bilateral ties, he said, adding that he will make efforts to contribute to the joint mission.

Notably, Mr. Shimizu Akira highly appreciated Hanoi’s efforts in containing the novel coronavirus, especially in facilitating JICA projects during the month-long social distancing period. That makes the agency’s projects run smoothly unlike those in other countries.

The chief representative said JICA projects in Hanoi will meet the construction deadlines.

At the meeting, chairman Nguyen Duc Chung invited Mr. Shimizu Akira to attend “Hanoi 2020 – Investment and Development Cooperation” conference to take place on June 27.
