Hanoi seeks investment from China's Guangdong enterprises

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2023, the two sides have strengthened their cooperation.

Hanoi is committed to facilitating investment and business expansion for enterprises from Guangdong Province, known for its capital and technological strengths, said Duy Hoang Duong, Head of the Legal Committee of the Hanoi People's Council, at a meeting with Zeng Chaopeng, Deputy Head of the Supervisory and Judicial Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, on November 25.

At the meeting, Duong said the city seeks practical cooperation with Guangdong in trade, import-export activities, and exchange of experience in party building, political systems, and socio-economic development.

Hanoi aims to strengthen cooperation in emerging areas such as digital transformation, green growth, renewable energy, circular economy and environmental protection, he said.

"Based on the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China, the city hopes to create more opportunities for effective and practical cooperation and experience sharing with Guangdong Province in various fields," Duong added.

It also expresses the desire to intensify cooperation in raising the quality of human resources, especially at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, Hanoi aims to promote cultural exchanges and people-to-people interactions, especially among the youth, to build a sustainable social foundation for the development of relations between the two countries and regions.

He said his province signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanoi in 2023 to strengthen cooperation and exchanges. Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, has also launched a friendship program with various places around the world.

In terms of economic relations, Guangdong has always been the leader among Chinese provinces, accounting for 20% of the total trade between Vietnam and China.

Trade between Guangdong and some Vietnamese localities increased by 29% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2024.
