Hanoi set up 30 checkpoints on April 1 at the city’s main entrances to enforce the two-week social distancing orders. During the period, about two million people traveling in and out of the city had their body temperature checked and declared travel history, according to the city’s police.

The checkpoints were located at bridges of Thang Long, Long Bien, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, and Thanh Tri, and roads leading to the city from seven neighboring provinces of Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Thai Nguyen.

The checkpoints were set up at a request by Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung of the Hanoi People’s Committee, who asked the municipal Department of Transport to stop passenger transport services, including urban bus, taxi, intercity bus, ride-hailing car and motorbike services.

As of April 30, Vietnam reported 270 infection cases including 221 cured and no deaths. Hanoi has confimed 112 cases, the highest number in Vietnam.
