Under the previous plan, the fourth subject would be randomly chosen among Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, and Civic Education, and as such, students are confused as to what subject they should focus.

In an interview with Kinh te & Do thi, Principal of Marie Curie Secondary and High School in Hanoi Nguyen Xuan Khang, the first person suggested the fourth subject in the 10th grade entrance examinations be removed, said in happy emotion: “The decision is quite a relief for the students".

He added that the learning process has greatly been impacted by the epidemic. Especially, 9th and 12th-grade students are the most affected psychologically as they are at the end of an educational stage and face the most important examinations in their lives, namely the high school exam and the university entrance exam.

The decision to eliminate the fourth subject for examination of the city government Hanoi really relieved a heavy burden on students, their parents and teachers, Khang stressed.

Prof. Nguyen Minh Thuyet, editor-in-chief of the new textbook and general education program, even suggested that some examinations should not be held this year.
