Hanoi seeks to expand cooperation with US cities

The city expects to promote understanding between the people from the two countries and expand cooperation with US civil society organizations in the next five years.

The Vietnam-US Friendship Organization – Hanoi plans to select several US cities for Hanoi to expand cooperation relations and attract investment capital in the next five years.

It's part of the organization's action program for the 2022-2027 period revealed at its 7th Congress held on August 25.

Under the program, the Organization would aim to raise public awareness of the significance of Vietnam-US relations by pushing for cultural-art exchange and economic cooperation.

The Organization is set to hold celebration activities to mark major events of each country, foster cultural, art, and sports exchanges with US organizations; host US friendship organizations visiting Hanoi and Vietnam.

Another priority would be to expand Vietnam-US relations in fields such as education, cultural heritage preservation, and tourism.

The Organization would help set up clubs for students, Government officials currently in the US, or companies having business relations in the US to diversify forms of cooperation; exchange information, and promote collaboration with Vietnamese overseas organizations and communities in North America to facilitate economic ties and support economic development.

At the Congress, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations Tran Thi Phuong praised the contribution of the Vietnam-US Friendship Organization in the past term of 2017-2022 in bolstering bilateral relations.

Phuong called for greater efforts by the friendship organization to promote understanding between the two peoples; maintain close ties with the US Embassy in Vietnam and US partners in strengthening solidarity and friendship between the two countries; expand cooperation with US civil society organizations; promote cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, tourism and education.
