Hanoi seeks to further strengthen ties with Vientiane

The city’s leader expressed sincere gratitude for the solidarity and support from the Laos Government and People, following the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong—a distinguished leader of Vietnam.

Hanoi continues to strengthen ties with Vientiane, reinforcing the special and unique friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen shared this view at a meeting on July 26 with representatives of the training course on Party and mass organization work for officials from Vientiane before the course concluded in Hanoi.

Tuyen stated that after two weeks of study in Hanoi, the class adhered strictly to the study plan agreed upon by the Party Committees of both cities. She expressed the hope that the exchange sessions and practical experiences would provide the participants with valuable insights and further strengthen the special friendship between the two Parties, States, and Capitals.

On this occasion, Tuyen shared some of Hanoi's notable socio-economic achievements in the first half of the year. The GRDP increased by 6.0%, higher than the same period in 2023. The total state budget revenue in the area exceeded VND252 trillion (US$10.8 billion), reaching 61.7% of the estimated budget and up 12.5% compared to the same period last year.

Furthermore, social investment capital was about 9% higher than in the same period in 2023. Hanoi also focused on both economic and cultural, social development, investing in the preservation and renovation of over 5,000 historical sites as well as in the primary healthcare and cultural sectors, she noted.

Since the beginning of the 2021 term, the total investment in these three areas has been around VND49 trillion ($2.1 billion). The city has also prioritized major projects, such as the completion of Ring Roads 1, 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5, and the start of the Ring Road 4 project, which will connect to Bac Ninh and Hung Yen provinces.

 Overview of the meeting.

Significantly, the city has been working on several mechanisms and policies with major orientations for Hanoi, such as the revised Capital Law effective from January 1, 2025; the general construction planning for Hanoi until 2030 with a vision to 2050; and the general construction planning adjustment project for Hanoi until 2045 with a vision to 2065.

On this occasion, Tuyen expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of the city’s leadership for the solidarity and support from international friends, especially the Party, State, and people of Laos, following the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong—a distinguished leader of the Party, State, and a remarkable figure of Hanoi.

"Although the study period in Hanoi was short, you have left warm and positive impressions on the Party, government, and people of the capital, as well as on the organizations directly involved in the training course. I hope to continue fostering the strong friendship between the two Parties, States, peoples, and the capitals of Hanoi and Vientiane," emphasized Tuyen.

On behalf of the class, Virasack Nammountry, Member of the Standing Committee of the Vientiane Party Committee, Head of the Municipal Party Discipline Inspection Committee, and Head of the Vientiane delegation studying in Hanoi, expressed gratitude for the hospitality of the city's leadership.

 Delegates at the meeting.

He shared that from the moment they arrived in Hanoi, they saw that Hanoi truly deserved to be the capital of Vietnam, witnessing its significant developmental strides and feeling proud of Hanoi's progress. He noted that the Vientiane Party Committee is currently focusing on overcoming difficulties to further strengthen Party building, the political system, and socio-economic development to improve the people's living standards.

He appreciated the candid and open exchange during the classroom sessions and the valuable experience gained from visiting various districts of Hanoi, which they would apply in their work.

Emphasizing the unique relationship between the two Parties, States, and Capitals, Virasack Nammountry committed to continuing efforts to build on this traditional, strong, and comprehensive cooperation.
