Hanoi sees record visits during 2025 New Year holiday

Hanoi kicked off the 2025 New Year holiday with an impressive tourism boom.

Hanoi's tourism sector marked the New Year with a stellar performance reflected by an influx of over 160,000 visitors during the one-day holiday - an increase of 17% over the same period last year.

This remarkable growth was driven by a 67% jump in international arrivals to 28,400 and a 10% increase in domestic tourists to 132,000. Tourism revenue reached an all-time high of VND594 billion (roughly US$20 million), up 26% year-on-year, cementing Hanoi's position as one of Vietnam's leading tourist destinations.

High-end hotels across the city saw occupancy rates soar to near capacity. The InterContinental Hanoi Westlake and Lacasa Hotel were fully booked, while the Lotte Hotel, Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi, and other premium properties reported occupancy rates of over 90%. This surge underscores Hanoi's appeal to global tourists and domestic travelers seeking luxury experiences.

The city's Lunar New Year celebrations were a major draw, with many events showcasing Hanoi's unique blend of culture and modernity. Highlights included the "Herbalife Countdown Party 2025" at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, which featured a stunning sound and light show, the "Trust The Moment" concert at Revolution Square, and "The Glamorous Countdown 2025" at Vinhomes Ocean Park 2. Thousands gathered at these events to ring in the New Year with music, entertainment, and a festive atmosphere.

Outside the city center, Hanoi's iconic tourist sites welcomed massive crowds. The Hanoi Zoo saw more than 18,500 visitors, while the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Bat Trang Pottery Village attracted nearly 8,000 and 5,000 guests, respectively. Rural destinations such as the Me Linh Flower Festival, Quang Phu Cau Incense Village, and Tich Giang Agricultural Market allowed visitors to explore local traditions and crafts through demonstrations and performances, further enriching their holiday experience.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism ensured a smooth and enjoyable holiday for all. Strict inspections were carried out to check service quality and public order, resulting in all accommodations, attractions, and tour operators adhering to safety and environmental standards. A dedicated tourism hotline operated around the clock to assist visitors, ensuring no major complaints or issues arose during the holiday period.

Hanoi's successful celebration of cultural events, seamless tourism services, and commitment to preserving its heritage have solidified its reputation as a top tourist destination. The city's record-breaking tourism performance during the Lunar New Year sets a promising tone for the year ahead, highlighting its potential as a hub for cultural tourism and international visitors.
