Hanoi sets target to plant 400,000 trees in 2019

The city has completed the goal of planting one million trees by 2020 two years ahead of the plan.

Hanoi plans to make itself greener, with 400,000 trees to be planted in 2019 and a total of 600,000 new trees between 2019 and 2020.

Supporting the spring tree planting movement launched by Uncle Ho, from February 9 to February 15, Hanoi has been planting 150,000 trees in all public places including schools, hospitals and public offices. The city also has plan of afforestation in an area of 70ha.

Besides, to embellish the city’s landscape, Hanoi has combined indigenous and imported plants to diversify the shape and color of the urban vegetation. Currently, the tree planting movement is spreading extensively in Hanoi’s localities such as Gia Lam (the district strives to complete planting 4,500 shade trees by February 28) and Me Linh (the district will plant about 25,500 shade trees and 15,000 fruit trees in 2019).

As a key unit in planting trees for the city, Hanoi Green Park Company informed that right from the beginning of 2019, it has urgently planted many layers of trees, including many imported trees to create focal points in important areas, step by step improving the quality of greenery in flower gardens, parks and dividers in 12 districts.

Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung asked the units to organize an effective and frugal tree planting movement.

He also requested planting trees of various types and keeping native trees. Besides, it is necessary to add more varieties and species of plants to suit Hanoi’s climate and soil conditions. The trees must be protected and properly cared for.
