At the meeting, the Hanoi leader praised the strength and development of Ile-de-France, which is one of the four most influential urban areas in the world, along with London (the UK), New York (the US), and Tokyo (Japan).

Since the establishment of cooperative ties in 1989, the relations between Hanoi and Ile-de-France have been reinforced and developed in numerous fields such as urban management, public transport, environment, preservation of heritage values and tourism, Hai said.

He stressed that the meeting between the two sides would contribute to further strengthening the friendly relationship between Hanoi and the Ile-de-France region in the context of the two parties commemorating the 30th anniversary of the cooperation.

The Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee also emphasized the importance of implementing the Cooperation Agreement for the period of 2018-2021 signed in June 2018 between Hanoi and Ile-de-France. The agreement focused on creating a new foundation for building bilateral relationship, with a view to becoming a model of local-level cooperation between Vietnam and France.

Hanoi always pays attention to effective cooperation with the French region in various fields, particularly in urban planning and management, public transport, waste and sewage treatment, clean water supply, air quality improvement, preservation of heritage sites, tourism development, technology transfer and high-tech agriculture, Hai said.

Echoing Hai, Valérie Pécresse agreed there is still large room for the two sides to work together, thus Hanoi and Ile-de-France will strive to tap into the potential.

She also agreed with Secretary Hai that the two localities need to effectively implement the contents of the Cooperation Agreement for 2018-2021.

In the time ahead, Ile-de-France will continue supporting Hanoi in traditional cooperation fields, especially within the framework of the program to improve Hanoi urban environmental quality funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) for the period of 2018-2021, Valérie Pécresse added.

Besides, the two localities will also give priority to economic development with Hanoi taking advantage of Ile-de-France’s experience and technologies to meet its development needs.

The French region will help Hanoi’s startups to work at Paris startup centers and help successful French businesses visit Hanoi and exchange experience as well as encourage the development of a startup community in Hanoi and Vietnam.

In the framework of his stay in France, Hai met with National Secretary of the French Communist Party (FCP) Fabien Roussel.

The Hanoi leader also visited worked with a number of French groups and businesses operating high-tech models in clean water supply, waste and sewage treatment.
