Hanoi strives to cover 90.1% of population with health insurance in 2020

Hanoi's social insurance sector needs to keep rolling out the city’s action plans and programs on insurance, encouraging people to participate in social insurance and health insurance.

Hanoi has requested the municipal Hanoi Social Security to expand the health insurance coverage to 90.1% of its population right this year, Kinhtedothi.vn quoted Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy as saying at a conference on June 24.

Quy asked the Hanoi Social Security to ensure that insurance arrears in Hanoi equal to or lower than the national average, control health care costs, prevent profiteering of health insurance fund, secure the payment of premiums of social insurance and unemployment insurance.

In the time ahead, the city will simultaneously implement solutions to increase compulsory participation in social insurance, unemployment insurance, as well as voluntary social insurance, Quy stressed.

In particular, the social insurance sector needs to keep rolling out the city’s action plans and programs on insurance, encouraging people to participate in social insurance and health insurance, Quy added.

He also asked the People's Committees of districts and commercial bank branches to help beneficiaries to open bank accounts to receive pensions or monthly social insurance allowances.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Social Security Dam Thi Hoa said that as of May 31, the number of health insurance enrollments in the capital city reached 6,949,847 people, or 86.29% of the city’s registered population, an increase of 164,062 people over the same period in 2019 but 50,324 fewer than the end of last year.

Meanwhile, the number of people participating in compulsory social insurance was 1,722,520 people, an increase of 48,174 over the same period in 2019 but 37,897 fewer than December 2019, or 87.8% of the target.

The number of people paying unemployment insurance premiums was 1,614,308 people, an increase of 49,148 people over the same period in 2019 but 28,342 fewer than December 2019, meeting 94.2% of the target.

The number of voluntary social insurance participants was 37,200 people, an increase of 10,980 people over the same period in 2019 and an increase of 1,837 compared to December 2019, or 5.19% of the target.
