Hanoi student bags gold medals at Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship 2021

To secure the medals, the student has surpassed hundreds of competitors from nearly 100 nations and territories.

Nguyen Quoc Huy, a Hanoi student, was announced as the gold medalist in the Microsoft Word 2016 category during the recent online awards ceremony held for the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship 2021.

Huy, an alumnus of Nguyen Tat Thanh High School in Hanoi, said that he was overwhelmed with joy by winning the gold medal.

“My efforts and luck helped me win this important gold medal. It’s a victory to my country,” Huy shared.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Duc Phat, a student at Vietnam Maritime University, brought home a silver medal in the Microsoft Excel 2016 category.

To secure the medals, Huy and Phat have surpassed hundreds of competitors from nearly 100 nations and territories. Three other contestants of the Vietnamese team entered the Top 10 of best performance.

Vietnam’s success at the competition is a big win for the country, particularly when it comes against contestants from the world’s traditional tech giants, including the US, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.

This year's competition marks the 12th time Vietnam has participated in the final round of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship. Vietnamese students have so far won 13 medals, including two gold medals, two silver medals, and nine bronze medals.

Presented by the US-based Certiport, Inc. since 2002, Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship is a global playground where talented students can showcase their passion for technology and outstanding skills in the Microsoft Office suite, which includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Top students aged between 13 and 22 years old are invited to represent their respective countries at the World Championship. In some countries or regions, students are required to participate in a national championship, and the winners of that event go on to the World Championship.
