Eight Hanoi students representing the Vietnamese delegation attended the 6th International Olympiad of Metropolises and gained impressive achievements by taking second place, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training.
The eight students, from the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School, competed in four subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and informatics.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training said the students brought home one gold and six silver medals. This is the third time Vietnam has sent a team to the Olympiad.
In the individual category, the team won seven medals (one Gold and six Silver). Specifically, the gold medal went to Nguyen Tri Duc who won in chemistry. Six silver medals were awarded to Tran Trung Kien for winning in chemistry, Tran Dinh Dung and Nguyen Manh Duc in physics, Nguyen Anh Quan and Nguyen Gia Bao in informatics, Cao Thuy An in mathematics.
The sixth IOM took place in Moscow from December 6-13. Amid the serious evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, the contest was held on an online platform in numerous locations, with 35 teams from major cities in countries around the world. The Jury consisted of famous scientists and professors from different countries.
The IOM is an international team contest, which is organized in Russia’s capital city of Moscow annually at the initiative of the city’s Mayor. Students who participate in the contest are 14-18-year-old dwellers of the world’s biggest metropolises.
A team of eight participants represents each city. They are to show their knowledge of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and informatics. The competition consists of a blitz contest and two main rounds.
The first IOM took place in 2016, drawing the participation of 173 students from 22 cities of 18 countries around the world.
By 2020, after four years of organization, the IOM competition has been expanded with broad participation of teams representing 45 cities from 32 countries around the world, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Boston, New York, Beijing, Shanghai, Budapest, Hanoi, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Madrid, among others.
