Hanoi supports 20 locations in promoting sales of OCOP products

A trade fair promoting agricultural products under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) program and regional specialties will run until August 20 in Hanoi.

Hanoi is supporting 20 localities in selling OCOP products and farm produce through organizing a trade fair in Melinh Plaza, Ha Dong District, Hanoi.

On display at the event are OCOP products rated with three stars or higher, regional specialties, and fruits of more than 60 enterprises and cooperatives from Hanoi and 20 provinces including Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Son La, Lao Cai, Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Dak Nong, Quang Nam, Phu Yen, Can Tho, and others.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the fair on August 16, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan said Hanoi is a large consumption market with a population of 10.7 million people, including migrants. They are interested in specialties with clear origins, brand names, and quality and are willing to pay higher prices for such products.

“It is the opportunity for businesses and cooperatives to promote their commodities,” she told The Hanoi Times.

Lan hopes that the activity will contribute to the balance of supply and demand, stimulating consumer demand and the city's economic growth, as well as making consumers prioritize fruits, farm and OCOP products with good quality and reasonable prices.

Taking part in the fair, Hoang Phat Co., Ltd. introduced macadamia and coffee nuts as well as other OCOP products rated three stars or higher.

Truong Thi Thanh Lam, Director of the Hoang Phat Co., Ltd. told The Hanoi Times: “I hope through this fair, a large number of people in the capital will be aware of products of the Central Highlands region. Thereby, the company will have more customers from Hanoi.”

Another fair introduction and OCOP products of northern mountainous provinces will take place from August 31 to September 4, 2022, in Son Tay Town on the outskirts of Hanoi.

On about 100 booths at the cultural space at Son Tay Town’s main square, OCOP products from the northern mountainous areas will be arranged.

Exhibits at the event are three-star or higher OCOP-qualified products, regional specialties, handicrafts, and pending OCOP-qualification candidates, with clear traceability and eye-catching packaging and labels.

Nguyen Van Chi, Permanent Deputy Head of the Hanoi Office of New Rural Construction Program Coordination, told The Hanoi Times that to support the marketing of OCOP products, the organizers will discount 50% of the booth cost for exhibitors from provinces and cities.

“This is also one of the important solutions of Hanoi in its efforts to promote the development of the OCOP program in 2022,” he said.
