The Hanoi People’s Council convenes today [December 7] a three-day meeting that will cover the election of some important positions for the local government.

At the meeting on December 7-9, the participants will elect chairperson of the municipal People’s Council, five deputy chairmen and some members of the People’s Committee for the 2016-2021 term.
The planning for the city’s socio-economic development, public investment and budget for 2021-2025 will be discussed at the meeting.

The People’s Council will also hold discussions on the socio-economic, security, defence, and budget in 2020, targets and missions for 2021.
The council is scheduled to pass 20 reports and 15 resolutions and hold interpellations by the council’s members to the People’s Committee and related agencies.

On this occasion, the council plans to ratify the National Assembly’s resolutions on the urban government and the special budget mechanism for Hanoi.
Other important issues namely infrastructure development, traffic congestion, bridges and key development projects will be included in the meeting agenda.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hanoi Party’s Chief Vuong Dinh Hue said the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is estimated to have expanded 3.98% this year, 1.5 times higher than the country’s average rate; consumer price index (CPI) curbed below 3%; budget revenues reached nearly VND280 trillion (US$12.17 billion), up 3.5% on-year.
