Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen stressed the view during a meeting today [October 26] on the preparation plan for the 2023 Lunar New Year (Tet), the country's biggest festive period.

At the meeting, Tuyen said the city would draft the plan a few months before Tet to ensure the locals have a happy and safe holiday.

Tuyen urged the authorities to pay attention to people on social welfare, war veterans, and poor people while taking measures to maintain social order and security in the city.

Amid severe socioeconomic difficulties resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, Tuyen requested Hanoi's Department of Industry and Trade to ensure the supplies of essential commodities to stabilize the market prices.

She expected the Department of Culture and Sports to provide a detailed plan for cultural and sporting events at both city- and district levels during Tet.

Meanwhile, the city's police must be active in maintaining public order and security, addressing traffic congestion during the latter half of the year.

The Department of Construction organizes the decoration during the festive period. The Department of Health will be on alert about the city's pandemic situation and food safety.

During Tet, Hanoi's authorities would carry out annual events, such as visiting and handing gifts to people on welfare and revolutionary veterans; meeting former city leaders, ambassadors, international organizations, and foreign-invested companies operating in the city.
