Hanoi to offer free food, drinks and transport during National Day parade

Hanoi’s preparations aim to ensure comfort, safety, and broad public participation in the 80th National Day celebrations and parade.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi will provide free drinking water, supplies, instant food, public transport, and shelters for residents and visitors during the 80th National Day celebrations, according to the municipal People's Committee.

In a document dated August 20, the municipal People’s Committee said that the city will ensure optimal conditions for people to join the anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, with the military parade and march scheduled at 6:30 a.m. on September 2.

Elderly people traveling from other provinces will receive special support. Veterans, seniors, women, and children will have priority areas along parade routes.

To widen access, local authorities will install 22 large LED screens at 18 public locations across major streets where parade units will pass, including Văn Cao–Lieu Giai–Kim Ma–Nguyen Thai Hoc route, the Nguyen Thai Hoc–Trang Thi–Trang Tien–August Revolution Square route, and gateways such as Long Bien and Cau Giay.

More than 260 other LED screens in schools, offices, and public spaces will also broadcast the events.

Public transport services will be expanded, with free buses and extended metro hours.

On September 2, trains will operate continuously from midnight until 10 p.m, every 6-10 minutes, pausing only briefly for maintenance.

Major bus routes such as 09A, 22A, E09, 32, and the BRT will connect central areas of the city.

To prepare for the parade training and rehearsal, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on August 21 ordered all schools in the urban areas to close.

The department is also considering closing all schools in the urban areas of Hanoi on August 24 and August 27, when rehearsals and reviews are held.
