Hanoi to power up 1,000 vending machines

The plan aims to boost the convenience in shopping for the city`s consumers as well as foreign tourists.

The Hanoi authorities have issued a decision on developing the automated vending machine network in the city until 2020.
Accordingly, the usage of automatic vending machines is encouraged with the aim of modernizing the retail model and head to replace street-side vendors in the long term.

The plan also targets more diverse choices and convenience provided for consumers in the city.
Hence, by 2020, Hanoi intends to install and put some 1,000 vending machines into operation at public sites in the city. The machines will be provided mostly around hospitals, schools, bus stations, depots, passenger waiting rooms, historic–cultural sites, tourist attractions, parks, flower gardens, etc.
The area for a machine would cover around two square meters to three square meters. There may be four adjacent vending machines in a slot, which is up to practical demand, according to the decision.
The city authorities also listed out specific standards for picking the machines, that they are adaptable to local climate; encouraged to operate with solar power and equipped with surge protector; security devices, etc. to ensure the convenience to users.
Currently, the city’s pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem lake has been equipped with seven drink vending machines, each of which stands on an area of one square meters with 300 products available.
