Hanoi to spend US$3.6 million on housing for people with meritorious service

Funding comes from the city budget, the Fund for the Poor, and loans from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Hanoi People’s Committee has decided to allocate VND93 billion (US$3.6 million) for the construction and renovation of houses for individuals who have meritoriously served the nation and for the relatives of war martyrs.

Each household will receive a maximum of VND60 million (US$2,305).

The city's Department of Construction has been tasked with designing three house plans and closely monitoring the construction of the houses.

The Department of Home Affairs must ensure that all eligible people receive benefits, and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment must help address possible land use issues that arise during construction.

The Department of Finance will be responsible for raising funds from other sources.

The district people's committees are directly and fully responsible for carrying out the project and ensuring that the right beneficiaries, procedures, and documents are in place according to regulations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked ministries, agencies, and localities to take bold, focused, and effective actions to secure funding for housing support for families who served in the revolution and for the relatives of fallen soldiers.

He said that the construction or repair of houses for martyrs’ families must be completed by July 27 (Vietnam Day for Martyrs and Wounded Soldiers), and the construction or repair of houses for contributors to the revolution must be completed by September 2 (National Day). The prime minister urged the mobilization of local forces, especially military and public security forces, to meet these targets.

Specific tasks were assigned to the following: ministries; ministers; heads of sectors; secretaries of municipal and provincial party committees; and chairpersons of provincial and subnational city people’s committees; the State Bank of Vietnam; and the mass media.
