Hanoi tops first and second prizes in National Excellent Student Contest

The competition was conducted with the utmost rigor, especially in grading, with two separate rounds to ensure accuracy and objectivity.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has once again demonstrated its educational leadership by topping first and second prizes in the National Excellent Student Contest for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The capital city maintained its leading position with 207 award-winning students, including 26 first prizes at the competition of 6,750 contestants from localities nationwide, according to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).

Nearly 250 high school students from the Hanoi team took the test in 12 subjects of the national contest, which was held simultaneously across the country in late 2025.

Among the participants, 140 contestants were from Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, which dominated the results by winning the highest number of first prizes with 22 awards. The school also secured 55 second prizes, 24 third prizes and 16 consolation prizes, and has 25 students qualifying for the 2026 Olympic Team Selection Exam organized by the MoET.

Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted ranked second in the number of awards with 39 awards, including two first prizes, 14 second prizes, 15 third prizes and eight consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted won 30 awards, including two first prizes, nine second prizes, 10 third prizes and nine consolation prizes.

The exam questions were created by the MoET and sent to the examination boards of the provincial education and training departments. In addition to the written test this year, contestants had to take the speaking test in foreign language subjects as well as practical exams for three subjects, including physics, chemistry and biology.

The MOET plans to hold the national team selection for regional and international Olympiads between March 24 and 26. Students from various subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics, who meet specific score thresholds, will be eligible to compete.

The list of students selected to participate in the 2026 regional and international Olympiad teams will be announced on April 3.

Hanoi's outstanding achievements in this year's competition continue to reflect its education sector's systematic and in-depth investment in nurturing gifted students. This is also an important foundation for Hanoi students to affirm their abilities in upcoming regional and international Olympiad competitions.
