Hanoi verifies Covid-19 vaccination data and confirms vaccine passports for local residents

The vaccine passport is used in conjunction with other personal identification documents like ID cards.

Hanoi will verify Covid-19 vaccination data and start issuing vaccine passports for locals, according to the municipal Department of Health.

The department has requested the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC Hanoi) to guide medical centers and vaccination facilities in the city on checking people's covid-19 vaccination data in a timely and correct manner.

By early September 2022, health centers in the city have certified more than 12 million injections (reaching 75.35%). Currently, there are more than 4.2 million injections that have not been confirmed (accounting for 24.65%).

The units under the Department of Health have coordinated with the Police at all levels to authenticate and update vaccination information to the National Database on Population and the national Covid-19 vaccination management platform.

From now until the end of 2022, the municipal Department of Health will continue reviewing and retrieving data on the Covid-19 vaccination management platform to share it with the National Database of Population.

Vietnam started rolling out vaccine passports on April 15 to facilitate domestic and international travel.

At present, Vietnam’s vaccination coverage is high compared to countries in the region and the world. "The vaccine passports were expected to come in handy after Vietnam has fully reopened its borders since March 15, facilitating both inbound and outbound tourism,” said Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan.

For getting a digital vaccine passport, people must declare their vaccination information that is checked by immunization agencies based on the national database for authentication, Thuan said, adding that people should double-check their vaccination info themselves to report possible errors.

Vietnam's vaccine passport contains personal information including the types of vaccines administered and the number of doses given. The information is encoded and stored in a QR code, which expires 12 months after it is created.

Everyone who has been vaccinated and has information stored on the vaccination management platform will be given a QR code displayed on the PC Covid-19 or the "So Suc Khoe Dien Tu" (Electronic Health Book) applications on their smartphone for checking when going abroad. If people don’t have the apps, they can get their passports by accessing a health ministry website and filling in the necessary information.
