Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines renew tourism cooperation

The five-year strategic cooperation between Hanoi and Vietnam Airlines is expected to bring dynamic changes to the capital's tourism industry.

THE HANOI TIMES  The Hanoi People’s Committee and Vietnam Airlines JSC on June 20 signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the period from 2025 to 2030 to strengthen their cooperation in investment, trade, tourism, and aviation.

The signing ceremony was attended by Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, along with leaders from Vietnam Airlines, the Hanoi Department of Tourism, and relevant units.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, from 2019 to 2024, the two sides fulfilled the agreed-upon terms of cooperation as outlined in a resolution signed on May 18, 2023 to accelerate tourism recovery and promote sustainable growth for a better image of Hanoi’s tourism sector and Vietnam Airlines' brand identity.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, Dang Huong Giang, said that the city's agencies have been proactive in coordinating with Vietnam Airlines to carry out their respective tasks. However, the Covid-19 pandemic restricted some cooperation activities and prevented the full realization of several planned initiatives.

From 2019 to 2024, Vietnam Airlines participated in eight tourism promotion events held in Hanoi and various commercial activities to boost Hanoi's tourism presence in major Asian markets.

The newly-inked agreement outlines five key areas of cooperation, including tourism promotion with the message: "Hanoi – Come Fall in Love" will run across the two sides' communication platforms.

The second area is investment, trade, and tourism product development. Hanoi and Vietnam Airlines will participate in tourism programs and events together, launch new flight routes, and organize familiarization trips (FAM) for travel firms, journalists, and domestic and international media to explore the city and surrounding areas. Other efforts include demand stimulation initiatives and packaged tourism products.

In cultural events organization, Vietnam Airlines will support the hosting of national and international cultural, tourism, and sporting events in Hanoi and at its destinations.

Regarding international-level event planning, the two parties will collaborate on a plan to regularly hold tourism- and aviation-themed events on a national and international scale annually.

To support official delegations, Vietnam Airlines will provide optimal aviation services and solutions for official domestic and international travel by Hanoi city leaders and delegations.

At the ceremony, Mayor Tran Sy Thanh emphasized the Hanoi-Vietnam Airlines partnership since 2017 with a focus on important political, economic, and tourism initiatives, as well as high-profile events, such as the Vietnam Airlines Classic – Hanoi Concert and the Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Race, and international promotion activities.

This is not the first time that Vietnam Airlines has partnered with the Hanoi People’s Committee. During the 2019–2024 period, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, laying the groundwork for close collaboration in tourism and trade promotion.

Reflecting on the outcomes of this cooperation, Dang Huong Giang said: "The agreed-upon cooperation content was effectively implemented, achieving key objectives and contributing to the enhanced visibility of Hanoi’s tourism sector, as well as strengthening Vietnam Airlines' brand."

Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, stated that the program would help promote Hanoi’s tourism and reaffirm the airline’s leading role in supporting the city’s path to deeper international integration and sustainable development.

He reiterated Vietnam Airlines’ long-term commitment to supporting Hanoi, the capital of a thousand years of culture and a major national tourism hub. Collaborating with Hanoi also exemplifies the airline's pioneering role in showcasing Vietnam to the world.

He added that the airline will increase investment in innovative promotional strategies, implement digital technologies, and tailor services to improve the passenger experience, supporting Hanoi’s ambition to become a livable city and memorable destination.
