Hanoi well prepared to reopen schools amid Covid-19 epidemic

The Hanoi government is considering reopening schools from March 2.

Hanoi has been taking many drastic measures to ensure safety for students if they return to school on March 2, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Chu Xuan Dung said at an online meeting on February 25.

On February 29 and March 1, all schools in Hanoi city will be disinfected for a fifth time after the Tet holiday. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training is cooperating with localities to draw up a list the of officials, teachers and students who have traveled through the epidemic regions since February 10, prepare electronic thermometers and install more water taps, Dung said.

The director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training asked all districts to continue to monitor health of students and teachers.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control Nguyen Thi Kieu Anh said that localities and schools should continue training teachers and students on basic knowledge to prevent the epidemic. Leaflets on Covid-19 prevention measures will be available at school gates and classroom doors when classes resume.

As of February 26, all 16 people infected with nCoV in Vietnam have been discharged from hospital and since February 13, no new cases have been recorded, thus, the Hanoi government is considering reopening schools from March 2.

However, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized at a meeting on February 24 that the government must assess the epidemic evolution before making a decision on class resumption.
