Hanoi willing to support Netherlands embassy in cultural activities

Hanoi`s mayor said the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is working on licensing the Dutch embassy`s exhibition of the World Press Photo pictures.

Hanoi is willing to cooperate with and support the Dutch embassy in organizing cultural programs in the city, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said during a reception for Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman on October 23.

Appreciating the effective collaborative ties between the two sides in various fields, Chung agreed to join hands with the Dutch embassy in organizing an exhibition of the World Press Photo pictures scheduled for December 6 and exchanging information on the F1 auto race to be held in Hanoi in April 2020.

The Hanoi mayor said the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is working on licensing the event, and hoped that more joint cultural programs will be held by both sides.

Also at the session, besides culture, host and guest exchanged experiences in smart city building, circular economy and scientific research. Chung stressed that Hanoi been one of three Vietnamese cities to join ASEAN's smart cities network. 

In the process of modernization, the capital city always attaches importance to applying technologies from Europe, including the Netherlands, in the management of water resource, air quality, education and population, among other issues, Chung added.

He asked the Dutch side to assist Hanoi in holding training courses for the city’s public servants on the circular economy.

Speaking highly on a plastic waste reduction seminar to be held on November 18 by the Dutch embassy, Chung said that Hanoi is in the process of gradually phasing out the use of plastic bottles and furniture and stressed the city's maximum support for businesses investing in the environment sector.

For her part, Ambassador Elsbeth Akkerman said that the Dutch embassy will coordinate with RMIT University to organize a photo contest on creative design city on Instagram in early November in Hanoi, and invited the Hanoi mayor to attend the closing ceremony and present awards for contest winners on November 18.

At the beginning of December 2019, the Dutch embassy plans to organize an outdoor photo exhibition at Hoan Kiem Lake. The Dutch diplomat expressed her hope for the early permit for the exhibition.

Also at the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of Dutch companies participating in some sideline activities of Formula 1 race, as well as the attendance of a Hanoi high ranking delegation to the Floriade Amterdam – Almere exhibition in the Netherlands in 2022.
