Women in Hanoi play an increasingly important role in the field, contributing to the city's growth and progress.
THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi steps up its efforts to empower women in engaging and benefiting from science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in the modern era.

The event showcased hundreds of tech-applied products and creative handicrafts from 50 female scientists, programmers, businesswomen, and students from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
“This initiative encourages women across the city, including female students, to overcome barriers, seize opportunities, and actively participate in the digital transformation,” Anh said.
The event fits with the government’s Binh Dan Hoc Vu So (Digital Literacy for All) movement, which promotes grassroots science and innovation. It aims to connect female intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and students with science and technology resources.
Currently, women comprise 50.4% of Hanoi’s population and are represented in all sectors of society. Many women leave imprints in research, product innovation, sustainable manufacturing, and eco-friendly practices.
Meanwhile, female artisans embrace technology to take traditional crafts to new heights and promote cultural heritage. In the medical field, many women incorporate advanced technology to improve diagnoses and treatments, enhancing community healthcare.
In agriculture, many develop high-tech and eco-friendly agricultural practices that adapt to climate change.

Le Kim Anh, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Women’s Union, speaks at the event held on May 17.
"Science, technology, and digital transformation are providing tangible benefits that improve the quality of women's lives," Anh said.
As part of the program, a seminar titled "Technology Application and Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges for Women in the New Era” provided insights into the value of science and technology in various fields and inspired innovation among Hanoi’s women and female students.
Currently, Hanoi hosts over 70% of Vietnam’s scientific and technological organizations, universities, and research institutes, as well as 82% of the country’s laboratories, including 14 national key labs. Over 65% of Vietnam’s leading scientists also call the city home. The municipal government is actively implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, issued by the Politburo on December 22, 2024 focusing on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. |
