In Phu Vinh village, bamboo and rattan products are the combination of ancient cultural quintessence and characteristics of a modern era.

Phu Vinh, a 400-year old village located at Phu Nghia ward, Chuong My district, that is famous for bamboo and rattan works, has found a new way to partially offset the Covid-19 impacts by taking their products online via e-commerce platforms and social networks.

In Phu Vinh village, bamboo and rattan products are the combination of ancient cultural quintessence and characteristics of a modern era, factor that keep attracting customers to one of Hanoi’s traditional craft.

Thanks to great craftsmanship and creativity, products from Phu Vinh village are well-known not only in Vietnam but also abroad.

In the pre-Covid-19 period, up to 80% of bamboo and rattan products from Phu Vinh village were exported. With over 60 local companies in Phu Vinh village, the handicraft production helps create jobs for over 4,000 locals with average income from VND3-5 million (US$130-216) per month.

While Covid-19 is causing severe impacts on Vietnam’s economy, craftsmen in the village have been taking advantage of e-commerce to bring products to customers, along with application of technologies to drive down production costs and keep the business going.
