The municipal Department of Industry and Trade is planning to build a network of showrooms for local products rated by the OCOP program in the districts of Ha Dong, Gia Lam, Quoc Oai and Son Tay town as well as in shopping malls, in association with promoting tourism to craft villages and the countryside.

So far, eight showrooms have been established in Ha Dong district, Son Tay town; the BigC supermarket chain and MM Market Thang Long shopping malls.

Gia Lam district currently has five villages of traditional handicrafts, including the famous pottery village in Bat Trang commune. In 2019, six artisan households in the district registered to participate in the OCOP program and 19 products were rated as OCOP goods of three stars or more, such as ceramic products, safe vegetables and processed products.

In order to support the promotion and sale of craft products, including those rated by the OCOP program, the showroom in Bat Trang commune will display and sell earthenware made by Quang Vinh Ceramics Co., Ltd.

As Hanoi has the advantage of hundreds of craft villages and tourist destinations, showrooms would be a good channel to boost sales of OCOP product and tourism, not only in Gia Lam district but also citywide, said Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan.

The leaders of Gia Lam district also affirmed that they would call on businesses, people, and traditional craft villages to improve the value and brand of their products; promote the development of high-quality agricultural production, restructure crops and animal husbandry; create motivation and efficiency for economic development in the area.
