Located in the city’s inner district of Hoang Mai, the Covid-19 treatment hospital has 500 beds and all rooms are equipped with high-tech devices including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system to monitor patients' condition.

The makeshift hospital is among the capital city's contingency plans to deal with the pandemic.

As the second facility of the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, it will serve as a national Covid-19 intensive care unit that provides treatment for patients in severe and critical conditions and technical support for other medical facilities in the assigned areas.

The hospital plans to mobilize about 1,000 medical workers, including 272 doctors and 680 nurses.

Construction on the Covid-19 treatment makeshift hospital began on July 24.

According to the municipal Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Hanoi has recorded more than 2,900 patients since the resurgence of the virus in late April. Of the total, 1,518 cases were documented in the community and the remainder in quarantine or lockdown areas.
