Hoan Kiem unveils winners of cultural park design competition

The initiative is led by Hoan Kiem District and co-ordinated with Ba Dinh, Long Bien, Tay Ho districts and Architecture Magazine.

Outstanding creative ideas were awarded on November 12 in the competition for the design of a multifunctional cultural park along the sandbank and riparian areas of the Red River.

Hon Gai Architecture Co Ltd and Green Lungs Hanoi Consortium won second places for their Red River Art Cultural Park and Ecological Park proposals, respectively, while the Encity-Siura Studio Consortium won third place for its Dragon Park by the Red River proposal.

Meanwhile, the competition organizers decided not to give the first prize to any of the contestants.

This event, held at the Hanoi Information and Exhibition Center, No.93 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem District, is part of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024.

Launched on May 10, the competition attracted nearly 30 meticulously researched proposals submitted by reputable design firms and consortiums from Vietnam and abroad, according to Ta Nam Chien, Chairman of the Ba Dinh District People’s Committee.

The competition aims to find unique and innovative design ideas on how to transform the land resources of the sandbank under the jurisdiction of the four Red River districts of Hoan Kiem, Long Bien, Ba Dinh and Tay Ho for the multifunctional cultural and tourism park.

The initiative give priority to optimizing land use, leveraging potential advantages, enhancing the landscape, improving environmental health, and promoting socio-economic development and national security.

It also targets to concretize the development plan for the Red River urban area, which spans from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge, as approved by the municipal People's Committee.

Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, speaks at the event.

As the concepts are still theoretical, further research will ensure that they meet practical needs in the face of climate change, said Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee.

The outstanding ideas will serve as the basis for an initiative to develop the sandbank and riparian areas of the Red River into a multifunctional cultural park, he added.

"This project aims to build a cultural industrial center along the Red River, improve the quality of life for residents, and transform Hanoi into a civilized and modern capital that stands out in the region," the chairman said.

The outstanding proposals from the competition are currently on display at the 2024 Community Creative Ideas Exhibition, which serves as a platform to gather, celebrate, and nurture the innovations of both emerging and established creators across multiple sectors.
