How would the weather in Hanoi behave the next Tet?

A cold spell arriving in the first days of the Lunar New Year will cause rain in northern Vietnam, including Hanoi.

The weather in Hanoi is expected to turn cold during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) celebration from February 12 to 16, said Mr. Dinh Huu Duong, head of Forecast Department of Meteorological Station in the Northern Delta region.

Mr. Duong said that a cold spell arriving during the first days of the Lunar New Year will cause rain and shower in northern Vietnam, including Hanoi. While the weather will be chily at night and early in the morning, it will be warmest at noon when the sun is shining.

The highest temperatures will be around 23-26 degrees Celsius, while the lowest will be about 17-19 degrees Celsius during five first days of the Lunar New Year (February 10-14), and drizzle is expected at night and early in the morning.

After Tet, it will be drizzling at night and early in the morning while during daytime there will be no rain. The weather will be cool, with temperatures ranging between 17 and 25 degrees Celsius.

“Dangerous natural disasters are forecast not occur during the Tet holiday and weather in Hanoi will be slightly warmer than the 2020 Tet holiday,” said Mr. Duong.

He stressed that on January 8 and 9 (days ahead of Tet), Hanoi will have showers and thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall. People are warned to be careful if a tornado, lightning, hail and strong winds happens.

Hanoi’s streets are expected to be deserted from evening of the last day of the Year of the Rat to the third day of the Year of the Buffalo (2021) which would be the best chance for contemplative travelers to enjoy its silent beauty with a camera. However, the downside of it is that there will hardly be any store or restaurant open during these days.
