Huong Pagoda Festival 2026 embraces smart management for modern pilgrimage experience
Blending centuries-old spiritual traditions with modern governance tools, the Huong Pagoda Festival is redefining how major religious events are organized in Hanoi, with technology now playing a central role in management and visitor services.
THE HANOI TIMES — The 2026 Huong Pagoda Tourism Festival will introduce comprehensive technological solutions from the outset, marking a clear shift toward digital governance and smart tourism management at one of Vietnam’s most important spiritual destinations.

The festival will run from February 18 to May 11, corresponding to the second day of the first lunar month through the 25th day of the third lunar month. The opening ceremony will take place on February 22, the sixth day of the first lunar month.
From the start of the festival season, organizers will prioritize digital transformation in organization and management.
Authorities have invested in synchronized telecommunications infrastructure and deployed AI-powered camera systems at key locations to monitor security, traffic flow and order, helping maintain a safe, civilized and orderly festival environment.
According to the organizing board, ticket sales, entrance control and boat service management will operate entirely through electronic QR-code systems starting this year.
This approach aims to increase transparency, ease congestion and curb negative practices during peak periods.
A centralized festival operations center and hotline will operate continuously throughout the season to receive visitor feedback and resolve issues promptly, further improving service quality and visitor satisfaction.
The 2026 Huong Pagoda Tourism Festival takes place in a significant context, as Hanoi works to develop the Huong Pagoda National Special Relic Site into a national tourist area by 2026, while completing a dossier for submission to UNESCO for recognition as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage site by 2030.
Festival activities will span the entire relic site, featuring four main pilgrimage routes and 20 temples, pagodas and caves dedicated to Buddhist worship.
Major ceremonies will take place at Thien Tru Pagoda, Huong Tich Cave and other temples within the complex, ensuring solemnity, order and a sacred atmosphere.
The ceremonial segment follows traditional Buddhist and folk practices, expressing aspirations for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather and a peaceful and happy life for the people.
The festive segment will focus selectively on folk culture, arts and community activities that carry educational value and align with the site’s spiritual and historical character.
Organizers aim to limit ostentatious and overly commercial activities, gradually restoring the festival’s core cultural values while improving overall quality.
After the main festival season, from May to December 2026, Huong Son commune will continue year-round tourism development programs.
These efforts include strengthening regional linkages, organizing cultural, sports and artistic events and promoting local agricultural products and specialties.
The locality will also develop experiential spaces, check-in areas, meditation tourism and eco-spiritual tourism products distinctive to Huong Pagoda.
With thorough preparation and expanded use of smart management solutions, the Huong Pagoda Tourism Festival 2026 aims to deliver a safe, orderly and welcoming pilgrimage season, reinforcing Huong Pagoda’s standing as a leading cultural and spiritual destination of Hanoi and the nation.
